Abstract
Interactive Octophonic Installation
Hibernatorium was an interactive octophonic sound installation with video accompaniment (by Anne Richardson). It was created in response to the habitat of the local creature, the Gippsland Water Dragon. Using sounds collected from the animal’s environment, as well as foley of some of the animal’s behaviour, a soundscape was developed along with a simple melody as a response to my encounter with the beast and its surrounds. It was presented on July 7-22, 2024 as part of the East Gippsland Winter Festival. It was well received by people of all ages.
The melody was constructed using wavetable synthesis of recorded water sounds.
