Abstract
This chapter reviews the basics of the soundscape concept, which were defined by Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer in developing acoustic ecology as a field of study that examines the relationship between humans and their acoustic environment. It focuses on the methods and practices in the field, while considers the key points of noise, sound recording, and soundwalking as methods for evaluating the acoustic quality of the environment, and creative practice inspired by soundscape.
